Depressives/ Manic Depressives are not constantly ill with depression. We have episodes of illness and periods when our mood/ health is normal.
Ian Curtis was evidently normal and healthy at the time of his marriage. He was severely off his rocker with suicidal depression at the time of his affair.
To me the fact Curtis was normal/ healthy at the time of his marriage gives his relationship with Deborah much more credibility than his self destructive/ suicidal thing with Honore.
Honore never knew Ian Curtis as she only met him when he was depressed. Depressed people are not their normal self. They are ill and Curtis needed treatment for depression, not Honore.
Fact is people do things when ill they wouldn't normally do and the world is full of manic depressives who've done things whilst high or depressed that when they return to normal health they put their head in their hands and despair of what they did whilst ill.
