Never posted before but couldn't let the statement about JD not doing self promotion go unchallenged. Yes they did. How do I know? Because I was a 16 year old living in Blackpool England(50 miles from Manchester) in 1977. I was then, and still am, deeply moved by their music & lyrics. The fact that they promoted themselves, initially through RCA records in Manchester & later through various record labels besides Factory does not detract from their great talent. Nor does it detract from Ian's ability to sympathise with the feelings of individuals who feel isolated & unsupported & put those feelings into words through imaginative use of written imagery. I have not lost sight of the way he behaved towards his wife Debbie - which I think was wrong. He was still just a man but I have been thinking a lot about him/me today. I miss him, although I never knew him personally.
