Bruce Gibson, 51, is an Americana singer-songwriter who lives just north of Atlanta, Georgia, USA. He has jumped back into the music scene with his new album Moments in Between. Gibson first collaborated with Chris Cunningham (of the duo Storyhill) at Basecamp Studios in Bozeman, Montana, to produce his first album: Love & Lust & Hopes & Dreams & Fears (2010). The single Holding On from Bruce’s first album was featured on radio airplay in the UK during summer 2011. After a hiatus, Gibson returned to the Montana studio to record his second CD, also produced by Cunningham. “I was out performing and promoting my first album and definitely kept songwriting with the intention of doing a second album,” Gibson said.
Gibson has been playing guitar for more than 30 years, but life has its interruptions. “In my 20s I had an music project in Florida and made the rounds of college frat parties and late night clubs,” Gibson said. “But for 20-some years put my guitar down to pursue life: college, marriage, kids, and career.”
Gibson picked up his Taylor acoustic guitar a decade ago and quickly began writing again. His earliest musical influences were John Denver, quickly followed by Lennon/McCartney. Gibson carried that strong songwriter influence into his own music. His songwriting today holds the lyric as a centerpiece and includes hints of relationship, romance, family, strength, nature, heartache, and tenacity. These words are wrapped in music that incorporate elements of folk, gospel, country, R&B, and rock.
“Most important to me though are the lyrics; I spend a lot of time on lyrics that connect the listener to the music,” Gibson said. In Moments in Between, Gibson’s songwriting draws upon observations, storytelling, and intimate experiences. “I worked on songwriting as a craft with marriage between lyric and sound. I also introduced a rock edge into this album.” One reviewer observed: "Truly heartfelt tunes .... Gibson sings with conviction as he pours his heart out."
The multi-talented musician’s latest CD Moments in Between includes a range of Americana styles from folk to rock. “It is a nice blend of stripped down acoustic and electric guitar,” Gibson said. The new 10-song CD includes fully-produced electric tracks such as Sonny Liston, Soldier On and Know What I Know. Listeners will also hear stripped down heart-stirring confessional acoustic tracks such as Quiet Heart, Small Hotel and Light of Day. The folksy romantic duet My Way Home features X Factor top finalist Tara Simon.
“This album is quality driven. Lyrics, music, and production took more time.” Gibson said. Writes one reviewer: “His voice gives the song soul, and all the instruments bring it all together.”
The album is comprised of Gibson’s vocals and ukulele. Studio collaborations include top music talent from Georgia to Montana: Chris Cunningham on acoustic guitar, additional vocals, resonator, electric guitar, accordion, piano and percussion. Parker Brown on electric bass, upright bass, electric guitar and vocals. Chris Cundy on Hammond B3. Drew Fleming on drums. Tara Simon on duet vocals and piano on My Way Home. Megan Makeever on flute and vocals. Jake Fleming on saxophone. David Poisal on mandolin.
“My goal is to make relevant songs and connect with folks in lyric and music,” Gibson said. The new CD is being promoted globally for radio play and TV / film. Gibson will be supporting his new CD release with shows and live appearances in and around the Southeast.
