Posted by Larry Jordan She writes “Leo, I saw an auction for a telegram that said Jim made $10,000 for 12 days of performing. Another web site mentioned this and inferred that this was not a large amount. I was wondering what Leo's comments are about this. Connie Sanders.” Leo replied: “...Wow, back in the early sixties, Ten Thousand Dollars was a lot of money for twelve days! Jim was the highest paid country artist at the time. I don’t know who said that this was not a large amount of money but who ever it was, he didn’t know very much about the sixties!!!!" First of all, OF COURSE Mrs. Sanders “saw an auction for a telegram...” It was HER auction. Aside from her dishonesty in trying to act like a detached observer when in reality she was trying to set Leo up to unknowingly take a shot at me, she mischaracterized what I wrote. I never said that this was “not a large amount.” What I said instead is that it “balances out to around $833 a day -- not much more than the $750 Jim often got for a show, and it’s not the most he ever received.” I’ve got all kinds of contracts where Jim was guaranteed $750 but also got a share of the gate, and there are dates he played where he ended up making more than that. He even made more than that in real dollars in some dates he performed in 1956. This is also confirmed by the union fees paid on many of the shows. The difference was the Cave contract (for $10,000) was for 12 days and therefore it stands to reason it would be worth more.

One of the three people who posed a question to Leo Jackson on Arie's website (only THREE?) was Connie Sanders.
