Its an interesting one, this new scheme. It has clearly been designed to prevent rat-running through this estate in particular. On the positive side this does mean that we will at last get speed bumps in all streets, which should stop repeat occurances of the surreal joyriding witnessed this summer. However, the introduction of one way systems in Turin Street, Gossett Sreet and Columbia Road, and the proposed closure of Virginia Street would undoubtedly make it more difficult to get into and out of the estate. One solution might be to allow two way traffic through the full length of Turin Street, but I'm not sure how the Turin Street residents would feel about this.
Unfortunately, it appears that the choice is between maintaining the peaceful nature of the estate by making it more difficult to access, or allowing unrestricted access to the estate and running the risk of being used as a rat -run.
