Posted by Jo Reedman Damp - the people before me put in a chemical damp proof course which seems to work really well. In addition (and on my surveyors advice) I painted the outside of the front wall with some kind of silica waterproofing stuff. The only damp-related problem I get now is that one wall in my kitchen gets salt crystals on occasionally, but they just brush off. Cracks - If you fill them, they eventually reappear, but they never seem to get any bigger. David Podge - was excellent, but sadly died just after New Year. I haven't found a replacement yet, though I'm thinking about trying the new London Tradesmen's directory mentioned in the Standard: The London Tradesmen's Directory on 0906 780 8888 (premium line) is a list of recommended and reliable London-based workmen from all trades. All you pay is the price of the telephone call (about £2). It even offers a competitively priced emergency call-out service for plumbing problems, storm damage, lock-outs, break-ins and vandalism. Lines are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Please note: some mobile and office lines operate a premium-rate call-barring system. Jo
