I have to say that I thought it was exquisite. To me it was a jewel - understated but classy. I found myself revisiting certain parts in my head today - especially the visitor to Miss Elliot's home at the school. Of course there were parts missing. Every movie has them. But the casting, setting, plot / use of flashback etc.,I found very effective and engaging. There were a few lines I wanted to insert and I certainly missed Mr. Gordon's fine melodies and lyrics. Could there have been more fire and passion - possibly. But in keeping with the times - I thought it was spot-on. Could Bertha have been played up and more dramatic, that scene would have been convincing. It was unfortunate that they didn't make her as startling as the birds in the underbrush - but those are the challenges of film-making. Perhaps they thought by then it would put the entire piece over the top. It would have been better to forego the birds and make Bertha equally as startling as Mesrour. ::sigh::
What did you think of the chemistry between Rochester and Jane, etc?
Love to hear your thoughts!
