JANE EYRE opened in Tokyo last night. Thrilling night. Three curtain calls. John Caird and I could not have been happier with this production. The staging is so much simpler, the strings are more lush, we have trimmed a lot of fat from the story-telling and the result is a leaner and more engaging version of JANE EYRE. We hope to take this production to other theaters --- in English!
I don't know if the DVD will do this production justice or not or even if it will be available. But John and I are excited to take the show further in this new form. We are also discussing a new recording of the show (in English) if possible. It would be a two CD set and include almost all the music. Fingers crossed that maybe this could happen. (And no, we haven't thought about who would be cast in this version yet.... but I hope we come to cross that bridge).
