It may have something to do with the fact that I live hundreds of miles from anything even remotely resembling decent theater but I loved last night's Tony ceremony. I thought it was one of the better ones.
The sound issues were inexcusable and I was not a fan of the tired roadshows but the new musicals all looked great to me. I'm now DYING to see Next To Normal. That may have something to do with the fact that I wanted to see it last Christmas at Arena but passed on it because it seemed too depressing for that time of year. It really looked great, though, from the number they did.
I also enjoyed the bizzaro quality of the opening number, which somehow made a medly out of all those shows. And I liked NPH's ending A LOT.
I wasn't that into the Billy Elliot number (I just wished the kid would quit yelling) but I wanted to see that show anyway, so it didn't really change my opinion.
Now I just want to see some theater again, any theater!

: What did you all think?
:
: I liked Neil Patrick Harris.

: There wasn't a single show that I wanted to
: see after seeing it done on the Tonys.
: Which seems a shame.
