Thanks, Kathey. I love reading about everyone's adventures on these trips and your pictures are great. I am waiting patiently for the next part. Agnes

: Our adventure began on Monday night when I
: drove to the aunt’s. We only managed a few
: hour sleep and were up at 3am for our 6am
: flight.
:
:
: The lovely people at Continental served us
: Honey Nut Cheerios for breakfast.
: We were sooooo hungry when we got to Houston
: and grabbed a sandwich and a Frosty before
: we caught our connection to La Guardia.
:
:
:
: This is the first time I’ve flown into New
: York and it was so neat to see the city from
: that view. We got our luggage and exited to
: the cab station, thinking it would be a
: fairly short ride. Such hopes we had.
:
:
:
: Our driver, Larry, was a young guy and very
: nice. I gave him the address of the hotel
: in the Bronx and we were tootling along and
: he pointed out Brooklyn Heights to us.
:
: I’m not an expert on NYC geography, but I
: knew this was a little strange – the Bronx
: via Brooklyn? I thought well, maybe he
: knows a shortcut? By the time we got to
: Chinatown, I wasn’t sure what was going on.
: He says “Did you say it was Baxter Road?”
: Ack. “No, BOSTON Road…” *sigh*
: He turned off the meter and started
: apologizing and was laughing at himself. He
: said that hadn’t happened to him since he
: first started driving. I assured him it was
: okay, that we didn’t have anything planned
: for that night. We joked with him that it
: was my California accent that caused the
: misunderstanding! We got to the Bronx and
: the poor guy got lost. We were literally
: going in circles. I finally got out our map
: and tried to help him. Never thought I would
: be in that position. I could see how the
: road kind of splits and Larry finally rolled
: down his window and talked to a local driver
: who led us to the hotel. So, we got a grand
: tour of the city that took about 2 hours.
:
:
:
: We checked into our hotel and immediately
: began pouring over the take-out menus. We
: decided on Anthony and Joe’s Pizza. What a
: great meal.
:
:
:
: Our tummies were very happy. I became a
: Garlic Knot Follower that night. We have
: an Italian restaurant here in town that is
: part of a chain. I’ve tried their garlic
: knots. I don’t know how they have the nerve
: to even put them on the menu. I texted one
: of my friends and was telling her how great
: these garlic knots were and I wrote “those
: fools” at our restaurant “need to be
: schooled!”
: Because of a change of plans, I ended up
: having to make a separate reservation for
: Tuesday night. The first reservation I made
: was only for Wednesday and Thursday night.
: I talked to the man at the front desk and he
: suggested that we check out in the morning
: and ask if we could just put our luggage
: into the new room. Bingo. The hotel staff
: was helpful. The subway station is so
: close.
:
:
:
: You basically hang a right out the hotel
: door, cross the intersection and there it
: is. It couldn’t be any more convenient. We
: put our luggage in the new room and headed
: out for our first subway ride!
