The show!
Ah - at last.
First - I have to say that having the concept album nearly memorized, I was please with the many improvements to the score. The opening tableaux didn't confuse me - though I have read the book. Gizmo hasn't read it and he was OK.
Anywhoo, I found myself impatient for JB's entrance, thinking back to the last time I'd seen him roll on under the curtain in Jane Eyre. No - here was a new character, but the same warm voice.
There was good warm humor and chuckling from hubbie as well as the rest of the crowd. Sidney's sarcasm and wit were put to good use. I can't begin to recount the whole story. HOWever, I think the pacing was done well. The story did not drag - nor did I feel left behind anywhere. I would like to hear the exchange between Sidney and Darnay at the bar - after the trial - again. I'd like to hear JB sing Reflection again. Ah - see the whole SHOW again. I'm so happy Jenny and Kathey got to go 3 times. Maybe I can go with sometheater types next time - who like to chew all this over. Anywho -
The children were superb in their rolls - their singing. I cheered them at the end. But I am getting ahead.
Ah - Second act - Sidney finds himself giving a comforting hug to Lucie and I saw a trademark JB action: touching her hair. She did not see - but we did - and he touched it to his lips before going forward with the rest of his plan.
The ending was splendid. Many were then on their feet for the curtain call but EVERYONE was there when James arrived. I stood before that - the notes - the voices!!!! My guys were "ok that was nice - " and I'm going - "You don't get it! These are some of THE BEST VOICES on Broadway."
Ah - so we pressed on home - made the bus and slept well last night.
Now - the Cast Album is a must have. That's all there is to it. (James' CD is there for sale, too.)
NOw - I'm anxious to see what Kathey has to say after seeing it in Asolo!
YAY! I got to go! Thanks for sharing it with me!
