OK - I'm back!
First, let me say more beautiful weather was never had. No clouds, fall colors on the ride down. A comfortable bus and nice bus mates.
We came in through NJ and went south around the island to the South Street Seaport. This let us see a great many things from the height of the bus that were very satisfying from a "tourist" point of view.
Oh - and "we" is "Hubbie", HighSchool Sr. (18 male)"Swimmer", and Highschool Freshman (14) "Gizmo". All men. OY. ANywhooo..... It was the best of times / the worst of times.
We had wanted to see Ground Zero from an elevated vantage point and the bus afforded us that so nicely we didn't try to go to the Financial Center to look out.
We took in a long look at the tall ships at the seaport and began walking up Fulton, west toward the WTC area. We found our subway entrances and exits - sorry, it's one of those things that makes me nervous, especially when we only had 1 hour after the show to make it back to the bus.
OK - so we toodled around and made it up to St. Paul's Church. The peaceful serenity of the place was totally welcome. We soaked it in. Walking further North we headed to the Amish Market in search of lunch. We had heard of their generous portions and high quality and were not disappointed. (I really wanted to try the pistachio gelato but could not convince anyone to go in with me.=P We also found they had a nifty sit-and-eat area. I had a lovely "Rafael Panini" with fresh mozzarella and the men had various other sandwiches and pizza. Suddenly it was 1PM and we hied it up to the E-line.
Getting out on 42, we found that 8th Ave was closed off a few blocks up with a street fair/ carnival of sorts. Sorry I couldn't figure out what. Next thing I knew, though, we were at the corner - boom! There are all the signs.
OK - part 2 coming next.
