After having seeing two backers’ auditions and liking (but not entirely loving) what I saw, I’m happy (and relieved) to say I was completely caught up in the sweeping drama that is Tale of Two Cities. And I have the music spinning in my head today – a good sign!
I won’t go into great detail; it was a looooong show and by the time I finished talking to Nick (Wyman) and Gregg (Edelman), it was well past midnight by the time I got home. But suffice it to say that I was impressed all round.
The show definitely needs trimming. I think the music and (especially) lyrics need tweaking, but they’re a far, far cry (you knew I was going to say that) from the disaster that has been bandied about on the chat boards. The staging and lighting are magnificent. The show has a wonderful flow.
The cast, overall, is excellent. And the audience bounded to its feet even AS the curtain dropped. The roar of approval for Mr. Barbour was deafening! And, may I say, well deserved!

Though it wasn’t especially imaginative or original, the ending where Mr. Barbour ascends the steps of the guillotine and into the starry heavens is still a heart tugger (VERY effective). Especially since I was close enough to observe the tear trickling down his cheek. He did a stupendous job.
PS-I have ALL the luck. When I stopped by the theatre to pick up my tickets, I ran into both Gregg Edelman (on his way in) AND Ken Jennings (who happened to bump into Gregg). Ken is also a HUGE favorite of mine (as well as a friend), so we had a good, long chat before the show.
