Thanks for the report, Mrs. O'Gall. Always love to hear about your NYC adventures.
I've also been to Max Brenner. I had a crepe with asparagus, spinach and swiss cheese that was delicious. But, I was disappointed with their chocolates. Nothing special for the high price that they charge. You can do a lot better at Marie Belle, Vosges or Jacques Torres in Soho. You can actually watch them making the chocolates at Jacques Torres.
Some of the seniors from the movie "Young at Heart" were on with Jay Leno last night. They had more spirit than some folks half their age. They did a version of the Ramones song "I Wanna Be Sedated." Too funny!! I'll definitely keep my eye out for the movie.
Glad you had a good day.

: I went to New York on Saturday and brought my
: good friend, the one who doesn’t normally
: like theater all that much, but she was game
: and so she came along to see what adventures
: I could pull her into.
:
: We started the day (after going to the
: farmer’s market so that I could get some of
: my favorite Amish pretzels)
:
: Pretzels here:
:
: by going to lunch at Max Brenner, a
: restaurant in Union Square the specializes
: in chocolate. She had wanted to go there
: since her last time with me in NY about two
: years ago. It was good (but not great) and
: she got the craving for the fondue out of
: her system, so that was good.
:
: Next, we went to see a movie that I urge you
: all to see. Soon. Very soon. Now, even.
: The movie, a documentary, is called “Young
: at Heart” and it is about a group of senior
: citizens that join a singing group that
: sings modern music. Very modern music. The
: film is funny, sad, moving, touching and a
: deeply satisfying experience. I can’t
: imagine anyone not being able to take
: something away from it.
:
: The link with the trailer is here:
:
: Next, it was dinner time and we went to a
: Ukrainian restaurant so that my friend could
: have a meal just like her mother used to
: make. Her nephew met up with us for the
: meal and we all had excellent food. I had
: the pierogies. It’s a very unassuming place
: in the middle of the building that serves as
: a social hall, but the dining room itself
: feels like a granny’s dining room. I can’t
: wait to go there again.
:
: The restaurant info is here:

:
: Next the three of us went to see a show
: off-off-off Broadway called “After Vermeer”
: about an art forger played by Austin
: Pendleton. I really enjoyed the show, but I
: seem to like everything that Mr. Pendleton
: does. My friends liked it, but didn’t love
: it. The very very hard seats in the tiny
: theatre may have had something to do with
: that!
:
: After that, we got on the train and went
: back home again. It was a lovely day. I
: wish you all could have been with us.
