that I had to dismantle it to loosen that "gear" on top so it would go backward and back out of the 2x4. It worked ok on the downward cutting but I'm baffled. Does that busted casting have to do with how it operates? Just thought of a trick I might try, putting a neoprene ring under the ratcheting gear to provide a cushion to provide a soft stop and keep it from binding at the bottom?? Also have a Yankee push drill from Maternal Grandpa who passed in 1947, a Yankee Push Drill 41 Y from a passed neighbor who gave it to me - new enough that almost no lines are on the cylinder that's usually brass - bet they'd almost rub out.. Oh it's a Bell System B model and has all the bits including 4 that are twist drills. A 1910 pat. chuck on an "egg beater" with a 1913 pat. handle, And a 1891 pat. Goodell Pratt push drill, no bits, and rounded out with a G -P bigger egg beater that must have been in a fight with some-
one as there are 6 or 7 teeth missing on the big cast gear... Don't use any of these often but each has a history and to me
they're keepers. So you're in Baraboo Joe, did you know John Goeghegian the Co. Highway Commissioner back in the 70's.
Knew him in my Highway Dept. days. Oh I'm in McFarland on the SE side of Madison. Jim Martin
