Germany
British Zone
The stamping is thin and I needed a magnifier to read it. This would indicate that it was made sometime between 1947 and 1955. The handle is red painted wood and the bit is 9/32 or 7mm.

: Dave,
:
: I didn't see your reply until after I
: replied to James. After reviewing the Lee
: Valley website link that you sent I now
: believe the screwdriver I have was produced
: in Germany - a long time ago. The bit is
: 9/32 or 7 mm. I don't recall the American
: bits being that size. Also the shape and
: design of my screwdriver looks much more
: like the current German design than the
: other pictures that I have found. Also I
: agree I didn't see any markings on the
: current German model. The "old"
: rust on my screwdriver leads me to believe
: that it might be from the pre WWI era. (wow)
: If either of you want a picture send me an
: email. curt@curtvevang.com Mine does have
: the old maroon colored wooden handle.
:
: Thank you all very much Bob, James and Dave
: for your interest and help!

: Curt, As stated in James' reply, a photo
: would help. I'm also unaware of any North
: Bros or Stanley Yankee No. 30 screwdrivers
: that were unmarked in any way. The first
: models were marked "Yankee"
: (without the model number)North Bros. Mfg.
: Philadelphia, Pa. U.S.A.
: Prior to WWI a copy of the No. 30
: screwdriver was manufactured in Germany for
: a short time under the HERMES brand. They
: were dropped from production when an
: agreement was reached with North Bros.
: Today, they are again being manufactured
: in Germany and are being carried by Lee
: Valley Tools. Here's the website:
:
: Although I can't be sure, the catalog photo
: doesn't show any markings.

: Hi Curt.
:
: Can you provide a photo please? The link in
: your post is to an ebay listing of plastic
: boxes marked Yankee. I believe all
: "YANKEE" 30/130 series spiral
: ratchet screwdrivers produced by North Bros.
: and subsequently Stanley tools were stamped
: as shown here .

: I have what I believe is a Yankee 30 but it
: has no markings, name or logo. Can it be a
: Yankee? Perhaps an early prototype? Any
: comments? Thanks, Curt
