David, You brought up a good point. I have two daughters ages 22 and 20. My wife has already informed me that one of their rooms will be made into a guest room. That leaves another room for expansion. I see a plan in the works. All I need are two son-in-laws.

: Good luck Tom.
: My wife has drawn the limit at total of 3
: display cases in our dining room and living
: room. (2 large, one about half the size.)
: This still leaves about 8 shelves worth in
: boxes. My hope is that after my eldest
: daughter's marriage next spring, I can get
: all of her "stuff" out of closets,
: attic and spare room, and my wife will let
: me get another of the big display cases to
: go in the dining room, and I can move the
: smaller one from there to the
: "spare" room, which is also my
: hobby room, and the "guest
: bedroom". Currently it is stuffed with
: 6 large plastic bins, the wedding dress, 2
: of the bridesmaids dresses, 4 large boxes of
: silk flowers slowly transforming into
: bouquets, and her boxed up porcelain doll
: collection.
:
: As for stopping, I have no intention at this
: time. My rate of acquisition has slowed
: recently, and I find that I am now getting
: more pleasure from modifying many of the
: models I already have, than new
: acquisitions. But there are always new or
: classic models that "get the blood
: pumping" when I finally have a chance
: to acquire them.

: I'll stop when I no longer receive any
: satisfaction form the hobby. Right now I
: enjoy collecting, converting and painting
: models. My problem is I'm running out of
: space to display my collection. I have in my
: study display cases for about half of my
: 2500 plus models. I'm negotiating with my
: wife to build a combination
: bookcases/display cases in our hallway. Wish
: me luck.

: There comes a time when you have to start to
: number your feathers like my favorite
: rooster Foghorn Leghorn .
:
: When you get to be close to 75, collecting
: more models does not make a lot of sense
: unless you think you live forever or someone
: close really wants them after you are gone.
: They certainly are not and never will be the
: great investment I told my wife and children
: about. Many will end up in some remote
: auction for $5 or less apiece, as experience
: shows over and over again, even I you got
: one for an idiotic bargain at $600.
:
: So when is it time for a collector to stop,
: reverse the engines, and retire? This is
: not a morbid thought, but there are no easy
: answers.
