Sometimes as I contemplate my mortality, and realizing that my descendants have no interest in my collection, I think as the disbursing of my collection as part of my hobby. It gives me some satisfaction to write up a nice bit on the model and the ship herself, to transfer to someone who will appreciate it. Many acquaintances I've made were from collectors passing on the knowledge and pleasure of their collection.
That being said, if you feel of sound mind and enjoy what you have, I don't think there is a set point when one should dispense with their collection while they still enjoy them.
