The SUMNER and GEARING class DDs of the USN were 2 different classes of vessel. The GEARINGs were referred to as "stretched" SUMNERs as they were 14'longer which provided longer endurance. During FRAM (fleet rehablitation and modernization, conducted in the late 1950s through early 60s), this allowed for an octuple ASROC (anti submarine rocket, essentially a rocket assisted asw torpedo) launcher to be sited between the stacks, the major difference between the FRAMed SUMNERs and GEARINGs. I believe HANSA produced a FRAM GEARING (as well as USS GYATT DDG1, also a GEARING conversion), but it wasn't available for very long. I never got one. HANSA also produced a number of SUMNER
versions, including the FRAM2 of which I have 2.
Having served briefly in USS FISKE (DD842), a FRAM1 GEARING, I look forward to the release
of the upcoming model. If any "old" Navymen are out there I also remember the FLETCHERs being referred to as 2100s, SUMNERs as 2200s and GEARINGs as 2400s, this referring to the standard tonnages of the respective classes.
For those interested in FRAM FLETCHERs, I believe TRIDENT back in its day made several versions.

: Another Gearing FRAM? Didn't a relative
: 'newby' producer just issue one (see Morning
: Sunshine website)? Further, SeaVee has
: already done it as well (I have two of the
: three hull nos. they issued). For Pete's
: sake, why not do a Fletcher FRAM? I have a
: buddy who served on one who'd love it, and I
: know I'd buy one, but won't be a customer
: for another Gearing/Summers.

: Under "Work in progress" is the
: N2368 USS Glennon Fram 1 1963 [Gearing
: class]. I'm wondering if PaperLab provided
: the master for this model and if they did,
: would Darius mind posting an
: "image" of his work?
