How bizarre was that? We all saw it; no need to recount it in detail but the big coaching error was Dixon not taking his players off of the lane with 2 FT's and especially with the game tied and one FT.
After Pitt rallied from 8 down to take a 5 point lead, I thought I was seeing another Big East team becoming physically dominant in the last 10 minutes much as Syracuse had done to ISU. But the Marshall restored order. Who the heck is that Marshall kid? Once again Brad Stephens seemed to press the magic substitution button.
Was Mack ever great or what?
Lost in the discussion is the fact that for two years in a row, Butler has not just survived close games with BCS teams but has nearly been beaten by Murray State of the OVC (only a single bid league) and ODU (3 bids to the CAA and the ODU 2 point loss to Butler is the only CAA team to lose so far).
For the second year in a row, a top notch mid-major placed in the 'knockout 8-9 seed' position forced to play a #1 in the round of 32 has upset the applecart. Personally, I believe ODU was fully capable of two wins and a trip to the final 16 as well.
Anyway, it certainly was an ending to remember.
