statistics exist (but only as numbers, markings on a page so to speak) they are not, however, reality themselves to the extent that they are the actualities of scoring or preventing scoring. that is the game (i.e., reality) itself. statistics are not the game just a limited representation.
think of it this way is a casualty list from war the same as the wounds and broken bodies? no. and it would be silly to think that it was.
