If you look at the returnee scoring for all the schools we could face in two games in the NIT, then ISU is looking as 'favored' for getting to MSG.
Admittedly, scoring stats from last season do not tell the total story by any means. Questions like who is coming off a redshirt, who is a potential impact Frosh, et. al. remain undetermined; but, when the buzzer sounds, the team with the biggest number on the scoreboard is the winner, so having an edge with proven scoring returning can't be all bad.
Seems we're stacked against teams who were good last year, but who have graduated many points, too. ISU graduated 12.5 points with Tunnell's departure, but comparatively LSU graduated 21.1, WKU graduated 26.9, and Milwaukee graduated just 11.4.
If these stats mean anything then we should be playing Milwaukee in the second game for the right to move on to MSG. They return 54.3 points to our 67.0 points, while WKU returns 40.1 points and LSU just 32.9 points.
Still, you can't discount recruiting, bringing on players to be ready for the next season, even if lacked minutes last season, summer work out improvements, and all such factors. Rebounding and defense will all impact the scoring result of any game as well. But, for the statistics of retuning players putting up points, we're standing tall.
