Posted by Weave I went to the Old HS building on Park Ave. only one (1) year during the 5th grade in '61-62. I was a "Bat Boy" for Shorty Thomas' Otter Baseball squad when the field was near the RR tracks on the current JHS property. Baseball & Basketball were the only sports in a kid's world back then. That's also where the OC Red Caps LL squad played their games..they were the ONLY LL team in NTH and were damn GOOD! BTW, my "playground" was where the current Morris Trailer Park sits. We owned the property on BOTH sides of Otter Creek & sold the property in '64, not having any idea that the guy planned on creating a slum mobile home park. My father was never happy over this development and once considered taking the property back after Morris defaulted on his loan agreement, pre-mobile home park. Otter Creek & the Ol' Mill Dam were my childhood playgrounds. My uncle, Rex Johnson, was the steam engineer when it caught fire and burned to the ground in '38. http://www.angelfire.com/tn/southportcavers/markle.html

Ask your grandparents if they knew Jeri(Newman), Patti (Isbell) & Betty (Hopewell) Weaver? All older sisters that came from that era...Jeri was a Band Majorette (sp)under Henry Meurer. Jeri & Patti still live in TH, but Betty is retired & living in Ocala, FL.
