During the IU fiasco, I got the impression that it's not so much the magnitude of the crime but the amount of effort spent by the school to police themselves. It would be impossible for any of us, without knowing all of the facts, to compare various rulings. The NCAA gets a lot of criticism and I'm sure they deserve it. But no one can deny that their job is extremely difficult. It seems that humans are instinctively dishonest and can be very creative about hiding their tracks.
