I live in Auckland NZ, congratulations on a very informative website. My second son age 39, following a routine medical, was found to have hemochromatosis. Following which his older brother and younger sister tested positive all homozygous. At age 70 with no symptoms I was positive hetrozygous ferritin 1038 which reduced to 800 after one phlebotomy. I have now had three treatments at two weekly intervals. For several years I have had troublesome and painful shoulder joints which I blamed on an excess of rugby then tennis now golf! To my relief and delight I discovered after two phlebotomies that my shoulders were much improved and no longer painful especially in bed. This was not expected as I thought that any joint problems caused by hemochromatosis woulb manifest first in small joints. Could a reduction in ferritin have fixed my shoulders?
