Posted by Tracey It's not the concept of the condition that scares me though, it's the treatment. I haven't even been tested yet because I am absolutely freaked out by bloodwork. Stick as many needles as you want in the rest of my body, but there is just something about sucking blood out through the inside of my elbow that scares the crap out of me. The last time I went I felt woozy and I was scared I was either going to pass out or else end up moving and tearing the needle out of my arm. If it turned out that I had hemochromatosis, how would I ever be able to get blood drained monthly or even weekly?! I am absolutely scared to death at this possibility. ;_;

My uncle recently found out that he has hemochromatosis, and so all the brothers and sisters ran off to get tested as well, and my mother found out that she is a carrier. My doctor demanded that I get tested just in case, but I haven't gone just yet. I've been looking over the symptoms and what-not of this condition, and I'm really thinking that I probably have it. I am rather tired most of the time, and regularly have stiffness and dull aches in my shoulders, elbows, knees, etc. I'm only 21 years old, so I don't know what else the pain could be attributed to. I'm also rather pale, and I run out of breath very easily.
