As regards the black and blue mark....sonetimes it happens, sometimes not. I think it depends on the precision with which the needle penetrates the vein. The mark will turn sort of a washed out yellow color, then disappear in a few days. I've heard that if a black and blue mark begins to appear, you can reduce the severity by immediately applying ice for a while. Never tried it myself, but it makes sense.
