I attended my original doctor for three months. After three months all he could offer was that my condition was a mystery and sometimes Doctors can't provide answers! The not knowing was unbearable, I lived a nightmare for four months in which I was basically housebound and feeling on the point of collapse. The Doctor went through just about every possible condition except for hemohromatosis. My new Doctor diagnosed the condition in 3 consultations. My new doctor gave me the results of blood tests from 2003 (requested my intitial GP). Unbelievably my serum iron levels where high when I first saw him in January 2003, but he didn't follow up with iron studies! I've most likely had HH for close to 3 years untreated. I wrote to this Doctor saying that I had been diagnosed with condition and I suggested that perhaps he might look for it in other patients he sees with similar symptoms to my own. He replied by saying that hemochromatosis was still low on his list on conditions to exclude. In my opinion his inability to address my intense discomfort borders on neglicence. The medicine I was given exacerbated my condition.
