Posted by Darren K I have to reiterate that I am surprised at your ferritin level with respect to your young age. It seems high. Again, I would be interested in the specific genetic information on your HH. What type is it? Is it C282Y or a H63 combination or another form such as Jeuvenile HH? Your AST and ALT are slightly elevated. With a ferritin above 1000, that could mean that there is some liver scarring. But, since you are young, I'd say that there isn't major scarring. However, "slightly elevated" results for AST and ALT is what is seen for even the more serious cases of liver damage. Interpreting test results is difficult to do for anyone that isn't trained in medicine. Depending on clinical history and other information, a particular set of test result values may point towards different risks. I still can't get past the fact that you are only 28 and have such a high ferritin and have symptoms that may be HH induced. Make sure that you ask your doctor about the type of HH that you have. And ask him to do an ECG on your heart...best to be safe and not sorry. Note that I am not a medical professional, just a HH patient. Take care Darren K
