Posted by Darren K There is a risk of organ damage above a ferritin of 1000. Above that level, the literature says that a liver biopsy should be done. However, lots of people with levels around 1000 do not have serious symptoms. As far as phlebotomy reversing damage that has already been done to organs and tissue; for the most part, once an organ has sustained damage it is permanent. Further damage to organs and tissues is prevented by phlebotomy. Some conditions do improve, some don't. Joint problems improve in some people, stays the same in others (after phlebotomy treatment) and worsens in some. Damage to endocrine glands such as the pancreas and pituitary is irreversible. Liver scarring is permanent...even though the liver is a regenerative organ, the damage is mostly permanent. For heart "flutters" an ECG should be done to get information on the the heart's rhythm. An arrythmia is a rhythm that is outside of the normal pattern. Stress can cause this, or it could be a long term condition that needs to be identified. I had "flutters" when I was being deironed due to the stress that aggressive phlebotomy places on the body. My problems with that went away after I was done with the deironing. Hope this helps some.
