Posted by Darren K I wonder if a genetic test has been done for you? And, if so, what were the results. That is, do you have the C282Y form of the condition or some other form. I wonder about this because you are very young to have such a high ferritin count and symptoms do not normally present themselves until a woman is in her fifties, roughly. For a man, symptoms generally become apparant in the late thirties to early forties. So, you are very young to have symptoms. Therefore, I wonder if it is possible that you have the rare and very "active" form of hemochromatosis called "Jeuvanile Hemochromatosis". I am enquiring specifically about this because it is a form of HH that progresses into symptoms such as Diabetes at a very early age. The one aspect of Jeuvanile HH that has to be closely looked at is the effects upon the heart. Jeuvanile HH patients can develop serious heart problems in their early to mid twenties. I don't want to scare you with this, but you want to ensure that you don't have that type of HH...because if you do, you'll want to start asking questions regarding you heart health. I have a cousin who has Jeuvanile HH. He is only 17 years old, but was showing abnormal blood sugar at that time. He is in treatment now and will be fine. Once the treatments start, future damage to organs is prevented. Ask lots of questions. Get a book to keep a journal of test results and treatments. Hope this helps some Darren K
