Posted by Jane Hunt My ferritin level was only 329 when my family doctor noticed it and referred me to a haematologist, so I'm very lucky to have caught it so early. My first visit to the haematologist (who has only ever seen one other case of HH) wasn't very promising. She was bemused by my apparent knowledge of the subject & told me that it was more likely that I had some sort of liver disease. Fortunately, she agreed to carry out the gene test anyway. Just got to persuade the rest of my family to get tested now.

Just to update following my previous messages and your helpful advice.
My gene test came back today & I'm homozygous for C282Y. I will be having my first phlebotomy on Thursday.
