Posted by Bill F Under US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, Arthritis Advantage is a Dietary Supplement. The FDA regulates dietary supplements under a different set of regulations from those covering "conventional" foods and drug products (prescription and Over-the-Counter). Under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA), the dietary supplement manufacturer (not the government) is responsible for ensuring that a dietary supplement is safe before it is marketed. FDA is responsible for taking action against any unsafe dietary supplement product after it reaches the market. Generally, manufacturers do not need to register their products with FDA nor get FDA approval before producing or selling dietary supplements. Manufacturers must make sure that product label information is truthful and not misleading. See this link for more specifics http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/supplmnt.html Here is the manufacture’s (Ganeden Biotech) on-line description. http://www.ganedenbiotech.com/index.php?page=Arthritis I will contact Ganeden and enquire about any pre-marketing tests they did. Send me your e-mail address and I will pass along what I learn. All in all, it looks pretty benign to me, although I would check to see that it does not contain a mega dose of Vitamin C, which would enhance iron absorption. It would be wise to run it by your doc if you are thinking of using it long-term. As always, caveat emptor. The on-line prices for a month’s supply (32 capsules) range from about 13-18 US$, but these prices are far cheaper than Celebrex. I too have been actively searching for an alternative to Celebrex. I might give it a try since you report good results. Good luck.
