Researchers in several countries have recently (last few years) identified the key roles of hepcidine and ferroportin in iron metabolism and suggested the possible therapeutic use of hepsidine as a treatment for HH, analogous to using insulin to control sugar diabetes. For example, see these links.
But I have not seen any announcements or plans for clinical tests for hepcidine as an HH therapy. I am curious if any such tests are contemplated, or are they a low priority because phlebotomy is an available treatment. Or maybe its just too soon. Anyone heard anything about clinical tests of hepcidine for treating HH?
