Many patients report that their joint pain and swelling is actually worse as the iron is being mobilized out of storage. It is possible that the random swelling you are talking about is actually being caused by acute inflammation in the joints, and that is why it flares. I don't know if you have contacted the Arthritis Society, but they have a lot of good information about the treatment of symptoms for arthritis sufferers of all types. As I'm sure you know, 99.9% of hemcohromatosis sufferers have arthritis -usually osteoarthritis. Unfortunately, it is one of the symptoms that rarely shows improvement after de-ironing. Elizabeth
