Dr. Nazareth, he's the vet from the emergency animal hospital (not Gracie's primary vet) has called with the other blood work results. He said I have good and bad news for you. Good news, she does not have diabetes. He definitely thinks Gracie has pancreatitis and he worries of something that is going on in her kidneys. A third prescription, being called in now, she will that have for 10-14 days along with the other 2 medicines(unless those things don't work for the treatment/then it would change). We have to bring her back at least once a week for awhile until they can see if they can control the disease. We will surely watch her closely. I have the carrier cleaned, pads in there so, we can be ready to leave if need be.
She begins her new food/diet today which is extremely important because they are treating 2 problems at the same time. By having the wrong diet while she is being treated for pancreatitis, she could have kidney failure because the supplements in the food medication could cause her kidneys to fail because of the kidney disease. The kidney disease has to be treated first. So, it's a test now to see what works to improve the kidney issue.
Hubby went to pick up the new canned food. No more hard dry food and canned food mixed as we were told to do for a long time. Now, she will be on special food that we can only get from him. If he can correct the issue in the kidneys, the diet could change again. He said (like a lot of vets tell people), the age, is a variable. He really thought that she was a diabetic and basically told Gracie's primary vet that as well. I guess that he has seen some cases as that and thought that's what it was. I told her that she has some good news today. Hubby and I applauded for her. She just watched us real closely.
We will follow the routine of the special diet, the medicines and continue to watch her. She is certainly not well because she is not moving around much at all. And, the prescriptions could be making her feel somewhat not herself (that's what we're hoping). We are feeding her while she's in her bed. She's doesn't want to even get up for to eat canned food with gravy. Of course, she probably knows the taste could be odd because the medicine is mixed in. Maybe, by tomorrow, she will walk around and come out to her food and water bowl. Thank you for thinking of her. Hope everyone's families and pets are doing alright, too. You all are thought of. I am suppose to be house cleaning today. I am doing that little at a time :)
