I was 12 in 1960 when I received my Barbie doll. The neighborhood girls, five of us, played with Barbie, and it was a big sister to the Ginny/Muffy dolls we had played with before. Our play consisted of sewing for them, purchased outfits were available, but expensive. Going to the local dimestore, we fought over the few shoes/and accessories packages available. It was short-lived though as we went into the 14-15 year-old stage and discovered 'real' boys. No one had a Ken doll.
