Other basins are producing some big storms as well.
Hamish last week in the Coral sea was a strong Cat 4 if not a Cat 5 at one point.
Indian Ocean has some notable storms.
Nargis last year sprang from an abnormally thick, warm water layer, which formed about a month earlier according to NASA researchers.
The hot water in the Mozambique channel also fueled a few strong storms this year - Eric, Fanele, and Gael.
Gael actually produced an impressive 6C core-temp on AMSU derived microwave soundings. It also was a strong Cat 4.
