Here you can clearly see the steep drop-off as one enters the ocean; nothing at all like the Gulf of Mexico.

Though the drop-off varies from beach to beach along the Delmarva coast, Rehoboth Beach often has a very steep drop - so steep in fact, the little kiddies dare not step into the ocean at high tide for they would quickly be overwhelmed... he-he.
