I agree partly with you. The rank and file
which included my grandfather as well as other relatives of mine most certainly were men doing what they had to do to to defend their homes. However, I have little if any respect for the leadership. First of all, for all the talk I hear about how much the ustashe did for Croatia, I cant get one thought out of my head. They were not a popular movement brought to power by the will of the people
they were placed there by a foreign power. Pavelic hadnt even been in Croatia for twelve years before Hitler placed him in power. The Nazis first went to Macek and the HSS who did have the legitimacy of popular support. Macek, correctly, wanted nothing to do with them. Heres the really ironic twist. The Nedic puppet government in Serbia was a total continuation of the pre-war Serbian government which did enjoy popular support. Nedic, himself was a very popular Serbian WWI hero. And this is an example of how the Serbs are almost always smarter and craftier than we are. Almost sixty years later, were still carrying around pictures of Pavelic while the Serbs backed away from their Nazi puppet government the second it became politically advantageous for them to do so. So even if Im wrong about the legitimacy of Pavelics leadership, there is absolutely no escaping the fact that he was a terrible leader. His handling of Vokic Lorkovic which could have moved Croatia to the allied side in 1944 is a perfect example. His fear of the Nazis kept him from doing not only what was right but what was obvious (the nazis were finished by 1944
anyone should have seen that). And I blame these guys for Bleiburg
they escaped with all the countrys gold and left their men to be slaughtered by the Partizans. The mythology just doesnt stand up to any scrutiny
while the Partizans are murdering civilians in Croatia
Croatian soldiers are dying for Hitler on the Russian front!?! There are even accounts of Pavelic allowing the Mihajljovic and the Cetniks to retreat after they had been surrounded
only to have them murder Croatian civilians as they retreated. The list goes on and on.
Hrvatska do Drine is nothing more than part of the mythology. First of all
it would only be about 50% Croatian. Secondly, the money needed for reconstruction in Bosna is staggering
Croatia has already run up an enormous international debt just trying to get roads built. If the Serbs in BiH cant accept the watered down symbols of the BiH protectorate, what makes anyone outside of an insane asylum think theyll accept the sahovnica. I actually think its closer to someone 150kg sprouting wings and flying

youre putting your money where your mouth is. Its very easy for the diaspora to shoot their mouths off about what Croatia SHOULD be doing while sitting comfortably in Toronto or Chicago or Sydney.
