My mother in law from CA has been here since the 28th. This past Wed she started kind of feeling icky, we all thought it was because of the weather change.
Yesterday she requested to go to the ER because she felt as if she was having a head cold and wanted stronger medication to kill whatever it was she was feeling. After 2.5 hrs in the ER they still hadnt gotten her back and she started having problems breathing. We told the receptionist the situation, and (despite having 16 rooms) she said they didnt have any room (and I saw room 1 had just been cleaned and unoccupied).
Anyway so we left, she said she would go back today. She ended up knocking on our bedroom door at 4 am today requesting to go to the hospital - and this time she looked like she was on deaths door step. So my husband took her and right now she is at the hospital in Pueblo, in the ICU with a serious infection that attacked her lymph nodes, causing them to swell with lots of fluid and almost closing her airway. We were told another day or two and she would have had a very serious problem on her hands.
So they want her on antibiotics for 24 hrs, but its looking like she will have to have surgery to drain the area, and at least a 3 day stay in the hospital. My father in law is driving up from Auburn tomorrow morning to be here with her.
My husband went to see his step-mom at the hospital a bit ago and said she was getting worse. Her neck was even more swollen and red and she was having coughing fits where she wasnt able to breath. They were going to do another (3rd) oxygen treatment and go from there. The Drs have advised against air travel on Wednesday when she was due to go back so my father in law is driving them both back when she gets the ok to leave.
Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. The dr has stated its litterally a matter of life or death right now for her (as her weight is a huge problem as well). Thanks!
