...shame me into WNV, he chastised, "Don't you realize that 50 percent of the horses who get WNV die a horrible death?!" and I said, "50 percent? Does that take into consideration the untold thousands who have gotten it in our state alone and nobody knows about it because they showed no outward symptoms?" ...and he was stone cold silent. Didn't say another word about it. Maybe he hadn't even considered that fact for all I know.
It wasn't an easy decision for me because virtually every horse owner I knew was going for the shot and of the opinion that those who did not were making a risky choice. Maybe so... life is full of calculated risks. But I read and read and watched and finally found two vets who were against the vaccine for all the same reasons I had concluded. That gave me a little relief, but I'm not afraid to do what I think is right. That's why I had my baby born at home. Didn't want to subject myself (and her) to the high cesaerean rate in our county, nor have her eyes treated for STD, nor get an episiotomy. Damn if anyone is going to do that crap to me or my child just because it's "routine," with no emergency required.
Like I said, we have become deadened to common sense, and our arrogant medical community believes their mutilations of the body are better than letting the body do what it was made to do, and has done throughout time.
Tommy and I get out and get dirty every day around manure, chickens, horses, dogs, garden, etc., and I think that's why we maybe get sick once every decade.
Glad you have a tolerant doctor. With you as a patient, he needs to be, LOL.
