We're told to. I don't take some stuff my doctor tells me to. He just sits there and smiles. I tell him "If I get sick, that's why I have you." He just sits there and smiles. He's a great doctor.
As for horses, we don't give all the shots that the vets want to give. Their immune system will build against this stuff. If I were showing them and have them around other horses all the time I would consider it. People need to trust mother nature more. Sure, crap can happen but that's part of life. I think we worry about stuff that is just part of life.
