Ive always said to other people to go with that nagging voice in your head because most of the time - its right! Tons of people told me "dont get a horse" but with Cheyanne, I just had this nagging "get her - shes yours" just like I did when we looked at this house. It was within our price range, had everything we needed, and if I hadnt pursued it, we would still be miserable renting.
That being said, though we thought about breeding Cheyanne, its like having another kid. I understand the costs, the risks, and the committment involved. When I think about having a foal thats all ready on the ground, Id rather have a ranch broke horse. Its different with your own kid as opposed to someone else's.
This next year, we're doing shows, my daughter is enrolled in the 4H for 5-7 yr olds (since I guess regular 4H is 8 yrs and up), and Id still like to be able to have that ranch broke gelding. Probably by the end of November, we will have our place fenced how I want it, and shelter. Provided the ground doesnt freeze too bad that is. Ive had tons of people think Im crazy because I cant fathom going out and doing things without my kids. They always tell me "youre going to regret not taking time for yourself". Guess I just dont see things that way, ya know?
