You must understand that Holocaust gigs back then were just mindless anarchy and that song always came last. If you listen carefully to the drum beat coming out of HMM you will recognise it as the Nightcomers end section, (I hope!).
Your question reminds me of mixing that bit of the album. The whole mix was overseen by Robert Bell, who is a man of some culture and refinement. I remember us, (the band), lounging around at the back of the control room, (like the unemployed bunch of renegades we were in those days), and suddenly being confronted with the very concerned and bemused face of Mr Bell, who had been listening to the tapes for the first time. He said,
"Is this right? It's just a RAMMY..."
Our reply was.....
"Aye, see you Robert...see you? Ye dinnae get it, eh? It's just METULL!! Right?!"
"Ah", he said, "I see". And so the poor man began the process of trying to make a barbaric noise sound vaguely musical!
I am proud of the fact that 22 years later it still doesn't sound like anything but noise!!! HA!!!YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!
