Posted by Ron I will leave it to John to address this if he chooses; he may or may not agree. As a recently-joined member, I'll make no comment. >"They did once make it big," you tell us. I never said any of this. You'll have to ask the person who did. I agree that The Sound of Souls was a monstrous release, although I don't recall seeing any press at the time. I disagree with the statement that Holocaust has ever "made it big." >The internet will certainly be the band's It is certainly a helpful tool; at the same time, however, it is just as helpful for thousands of other bands, making it as difficult as it ever was to get ahead of the pack. With today's technology, any schmuck in his mother's basement can put out a professional quality CD release and a press kit to match. To quote the owner of a relatively major local indie label, "everyone and his grandmother is a record label now." The glut of musical product (for lack of a better word) is at epic proportions right now. Given the state of the economy (which is now being compared to Depression-era levels), the prospects for professional musicians are grim indeed. And that's just for the younger bands; we, on the other hand, have families to think of and great distances between us. By the way, do you have any idea how much I spent (just money-wise, forget the time) on Internet-based advertising and promotion in the last year? Do you? I don't. I just know that I had to stop at the end of last summer because I ran out. What I have to show for it so far, among other things, is someone posting on our message board that we're "hiding under our beds." You can say whatever the hell you want on this board, Alan; I'm not going to censor you. Please do not think, however, that comments such as these are any more true than they are appreciated. >Call the record company. Ho-hum! You seem strangely certain that this has not been done. If you truly believe that a phone call to a nice big record company is sufficient for getting what is needed, then I'm beginning to understand the source of your earlier "bloody nose" statements. You seem to think that a quick call to Sony Records and putting a couple of songs out on the Napster-of-the-month clone is the key to success in the music business. I assure you, it is not. Ron
