Just rip to wave and then convert with this tool: http://www.etree.org/shncom.html
Basically you just have to drag and drop. It's rather easy to use. I'm sure there are ways to do it command line base but I haven't looked into it.
Basically SHN is good because it's lossless. In other words, no quality loss. People argue for it for those reasons they also believe that MP3's "pollute" the trading community. I don't know exactly how true that is but there's probably a large difference by 4th or 5th generation recordings.
Files will be fairly large though so if you don't have highspeed to upload it just do the MP3s.
