Posted by Manfred I think the problem is not compiler related. I think the Hitachi Embedded Workbench (HEW) is the problem. Perhaps my former post was not clear about that so I try again. Please follow these steps and keep in mind that I have a german version of Windows XP so perhaps not everything is named correctly: 1) Start Hitachi Embedded Workbench (Version 3). 2) Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to start the Windows task manager. 3) Select the tab 'Processes'. 4) Locate the line 'Hew2.exe' and make a right-click on it. 5) Select 'Set priority -> High' to run your Hitachi Embedded Workbench with high process priority. 6) Now open you workspace and download your software to your target. Download should now run smoothly and fast. That's all and works very fine for me on Windows XP SP1. Sincerely,

Hi Filippo,

: Hi Manfred,
: I tested GNU 501 too, and the
: problem is still here, as I
: suspected.
: Another test could be to use a
: different os, as i'm currently using
: XP sp2. I have a W2k SP4 handy,
: today I will try this.
: Thank you for your reply,

: Hi Filippo,
:
: I know two solutions to this
: problem.
:
: 1) Minimize HEW during code
: download.
:
: 2) Set a higher process priority for
: HEW. 'Realtime' works best but if
: HEW hangs you have to turn of your
: computer, so 'High' should work
: fine.
:
: Perhaps someone who has access to
: Renesas Support can send a bug
: report. I use HEW together with
: GNUH8 v501 and have no support
: access.
:
: Sincerely,
: Manfred

: Hi,
: I've noticed that Hew3 and 4,
: compared with Hew2.1, exibit a
: strange behavior in downloading the
: code to the target.
: I'm currently using an EDK2377, on
: which I download some 20 kbytes of
: code in RAM.
: With Hew2.1, the dowload process
: runs smoothly and( seems) at
: constant speed, but with Hew3 and 4
: I see some remarkable pauses during
: download, and the download time is
: longer.
: The debugger runs fine.
: Can anyone kindly help me?
: Thanks a lot
: Filippo
