Cannot be input pin

I am using H83068 EVB. However, I have just realised that I cannot clear any of PDDR ( from port 1 to port b ) ( pin data direction register ) to assign a pin as input instead of output pin. I have checked the assembly program and it looks alright as well. Any one come across this trivial but significant problem before?
