Posted by what? on 4/9/2003, 2:07 pm, in reply to "Paino claims class basketball not culprit for state tourney woes" Don't get me wrong. I think the argument has some validity, but that fact about Attucks and the attendance shoots some holes. I just think that the 60s changed America. Vietnam disheartened many people. More women got jobs and the breakup of the home. More people decided to end their marriages rather than stick them out as people had done in the past. More single parent homes, the rise of unemployment, the desegregation of public schools, suburbanization, the rise of the information age...all of these are major factors. I guess part of me does not want this guy to be right. What does this say about the majority of people from Indiana? Are Hoosiers as racist as this guy says? I know there are a couple of places in Indiana that I won't go to in 2003, but for this guy to accuse the entire state of losing interest in the sport that has given the state its identity...it is just hard to swallow and full of holes. You want more holes? Scott May, Mike Woodson, Isaiah Thomas, Ray Tolbert, Calbert Cheaney, Alan Henderson...Keith Smart...Aren't these black players? I would say that these players are just as loved around this state as many of the white Hoosier alums. I think this guy has some guts, but I don't think his argument is completely valid.
